Golden Oldies 2022

Newby Hall Cricket Club

Golden Oldies Week

Sponsored  by

Introduction

The Golden Oldies Cricket Festival was originally due to be held in August 2020, then re-arranged for August 2021…but due to the small matter of a global pandemic it has apparently been moved to 2022. We say apparently because the organisers are a bit quiet on the subject of dates – and who can blame them!!

Newby Hall has entered a team and whenever the Golden Oldies Cricket Festival next takes place in Harrogate we’ll be there.

After all, we’re looking forward to it and quite simply can’t wait to welcome our opposition and host our games at the Newby Hall Cricket Ground. The plans we had in place for 2020 will be dusted down and fitted to the new dates and we’re looking forward to making sure that the week is a huge success for the club and our visitors. You’ll find out more about the Golden Oldies and our plans below.

We appreciate that it’s difficult for you to make plans when there are no confirmed dates. And even if there were dates, we need to see how the World emerges from Covid and see how travel restrictions are lifted. But putting Covid-19 to one side, life needs to continue – we need to find a way of dealing with it and that means making plans, socialising and enjoying life. It’s with this in mind that we hope you’ll be able to join us and that you will help make it a great week.

The Golden Oldies Cricket Festival

The Golden Oldies Cricket Festival is an international cricket festival for those aged 35 and over and is held every couple of years.  The competition is being held in Harrogate in 2021, fresh from Christchurch in 2018 and Barbados in 2017.

The majority of the players are aged between 45-65 which helps ensure that the emphasis is on participation and camaraderie.  The last time the festival was held in Harrogate, in 2010, over 1,200 people attended, either as players or supporters.

67 teams were entered for the 2020 competition and organisers are hopeful that the majority will be there for the re-arranged festival.

Check out www.gocricketharrogate.com for more information.

Newby Hall CC

Newby Hall have entered a team and are planning to make the Golden Oldies a big week. We have entered the Over 40 category, despite having more than our fair share of players aged 50+!

We’ll play three games at our ground in the competition and potentially host a fourth team in a warm up fixture. If you’re reading this and want to volunteer your side as potential opponents let us know – depending on league fixtures we’d love to host you.

In and around these fixtures we will hold our own events and attend as many of the official Golden Oldies events as members wish.

Interest in our clubs Golden Oldies week has been exceptionally strong since it was publicised in early September 2019.  I’m expecting to have a playing squad of approximately 20 people and many more ‘supporters’ joining us for the full week, including up to 10 players, umpires and supporters from overseas (travel restrictions allowing!).

The Schedule

We’ve put together a week-long series of events for our Golden Oldies week to help ensure that we make the most of it and that everyone has a great week. There’s hopefully something for everyone and enough to keep our overseas guests busy and entertained!

Absolutely everyone is invited to attend – the more support we have the better the week will be for everyone involved.

Prices will be confirmed once new dates are confirmed.

Sponsorship

The Golden Oldies Cricket Festival presents Newby Hall, our players, supports and potential sponsors with a unique opportunity to be part of a Global Event.

We’re delighted that we have already secured our two main sponsors.

In Front Australian Business Solutions have agreed to become the club’s main sponsor for our Golden Oldies Cricket Week.

In Front Australian Business Solutions specialise in Equipment and Inventory Finance. They also utilise their expertise and network to be able to provide solutions for Commercial & Residential Property Finance, Debtor Finance, Motor Vehicle Finance and Novated Leasing, giving clients access to their panel of over 25 lenders right across Australia.

In Front Australian Business Solutions’ founder, Shane Smith, is one of Newby Hall CC’s former overseas players. We’re delighted that he has decided to show his affection and commitment towards the club in the form of this sponsorship, which will not only help ensure that the Golden Oldies week is a huge success but also help support the longer-term sustainability of the club.

Amwins, a specialist insurance and reinsurance broking partner, has agreed to become our ‘Gold Sponsor’ for the week which will mean they will be our shirt sleeve sponsor.

Amwins has been introduced to the club by Chris Lane, our overseas player in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Chris is hoping to come across from Perth in W.A. to join us for the week.

A wide range of sponsorship packages are still available and we’ll be actively offering these to firms and individuals once the new dates are confirmed.

Our participation in the festival, and the number of people attending both to play for Newby Hall and in opposition, and the media attention this event will receive, presents us with a brilliant and one-off opportunity to reach new audiences and in doing so promote both the club and our sponsors.

If you or your company can either provide us with sponsorship, or make relevant introductions, please get in touch.

That’s All For Now…

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I hope you will be able to join us for part of or the whole of our Golden Oldies week and look forward to seeing you there.

If you have any questions, would like to register your interest in playing, attending any of the events or discuss the sponsorship opportunities, please get in touch.

Golden Oldies Playing Squad

We had strong demand from both current and past players for the 2020 festival and are expecting similar for 2021. Get in touch to register your interest.

We’re particularly keen on those players and supporters who can make a week of it., or commit to a number of events.

Playing to odd game might be OK, but we really want to make this ‘the tour that doesn’t tour’!

Rehydration

Whisper it quietly, but we’ve got some exciting ideas and plans forming for the bar during the Golden Oldies Week. How does draft ale and a Yorkshire Gin Bar sound? We think it sounds great and so we’re working to make it a reality! Watch this space.

We’ve also managed to get hold of some stubby holders, which are well as coming in very handy for refreshments will also be ideal souvenirs of the week for our players are guests alike.
